Nine persons arrested for DUI related infractions

Five persons in the Eastern Division and four persons in Port of Spain were arrested and charged for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

In a Road Traffic Exercise conducted in Sangre Grande by the TTPS, between 10 pm on April 3rd and 2am on April 4th 2021, 67 field sobriety tests were conducted where three persons were allegedly found to be driving while intoxicated. Two others refused to provide breath samples for testing. Of the two who failed to provide a breath sample, one was also found to be driving without a permit.

Almost simultaneously, Port of Spain City Police arrested and charged three persons for the same offences in the Port of Spain area.

In an exercise paying particular attention to Ariapita Avenue, three persons were arrested and charged for driving under the influence with readings ranging from 47 micrograms to 59 micrograms.

The fourth person, a 35-year-old man from Aranguez, was arrested after he was spotted by Port of Spain Central Market Police driving in a reckless manner. The driver was taken to the Aranguez Traffic Branch where he refused to give a sample for a breathalyzer test.

He was then taken to the Port of Spain Central Market Police Post where he was formally charged for the offence of failing to provide a specimen of breath for testing.
