Contractor charged with larceny

A contractor of Craignish Village, Princes Town, was charged with larceny of $12,500, having allegedly received it as a down-payment for the construction of a wooden bridge at a private residence in St. Augustine.

In November 2020, it was alleged that DAVEN DOOKIE, a construction contractor, received a payment of $12,500 from a private homeowner as a down-payment and agreed to provide the construction services.

Subsequent to the payment, DOOKIE reportedly refused to answer phone calls from the homeowner. No work was ever done on the project. The homeowner made a report to the Fraud Squad in February 2021.

The contractor was arrested on the 30th March 2021, after investigations were conducted by officers of the Fraud Squad.

DAVEN DOOKIE was charged by Cpl Cummings of the Fraud Squad on Thursday 1st April 2021, and appeared before Justice of the Peace, Stephen Young on the same day. He was granted bail in the sum of $30,000 with a surety, and ordered to appear at the Port- of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on the 29th April 2021.
