UNC to pilot debate of No-Confidence in Deyalsingh today

After their initial call for him to resign were ignored, the United National Congress has decided to try another tactic, and has filed a motion of no confidence against the Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh.

The motion was filed yesterday by UNC Caroni East MP Dr Rishad Seecheran, ahead of today’s sitting of Parliament.

The motion against Deyalsingh states that the Minister of Health “has persistently demonstrated his inability to effectively undertake his duties in the health sector for the welfare of our citizens.”

UNC’s Deputy Leader, David Lee, said the motion is wide ranging, as it calls for the Minister’s resignation and represents the views of citizens.“

Lee added “There are many unknowns when you enter hospital for COVID. You hope to be taken care of, we don’t know if that’s occurring. People need answers, families are seeking closure. We hear horror stories of victims in the tents at some hospitals. Some never emerge.”

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Lee also reiterated the Opposition’s call for a Commission of Enquiry into government’s handling of the pandemic.
