Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister says warm scenes during a visit by leaders of four European Union nations earlier represent a “historic breakthrough” – but warns that Western countries have shown a “gap ] between promises and actions” so far.
Olha Stefanishyna tells the BBC those leaders “now know the price” of not delivering the right weapons to Ukraine in a timely way, in reference to the group’s trip to the decimated city of Irpin.
Following their visit, a refusal to grant Ukraine candidate status to join the European Union would cause “enormous frustration amongst Ukrainian people,” she tells Stephen Sackur on the HARDtalk programme.
