Two, including a 17-year-old, to appear in court for murder

A 17-year-old male and a 26-year-old labourer are expected to appear before the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of Andres Lopez, 24.

The suspects were charged with murder, three counts of robbery, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life.

JOSEPH AGUILLERA and the teen both of Rancho Quemado, S.S Erin Road were charged by Sgt. Dookoo on July 8th, 2022 and July 9th, 2022 respectively after advice was received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul.

According to police reports on June 28th, both men allegedly robbed Lopez, a Venezuelan, a food vendor who was at his place of employment, located along Naparima Mayaro Road, Princes Town.

Lopez was shot after the robbery. He was subsequently taken to seek medical treatment, when he succumbed to his injuries on June 30th.

The suspects were arrested shortly after the incident on June 28th.

An investigation was launched by Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three Office, together with officers of the Southern Division.

The investigation was spearheaded by Supt (Ag.) Sean Dhillpaul, ASP Persad and was supervised by Sgt (Ag.) Forbes of the HBI Region Three.
