PCA says officers involved in colleague’s death assaulted Muslims during search

Officers involved in the death of their colleague PC Clarence Gilkes were also responsible for assaulting Muslims in a subsequent search at a Masjid.

This is according to an investigation by the Police Complaints Authority into exercises conducted by officers at the Masjid al Hudaa in Richplain, Diego Martin.

Gilkes died during a shootout between officers and a Diego Martin man.

Officers reportedly stormed the mosque after the shooting of PC Gilkes, searching for a man they claimed to have believed to be a suspect in his shooting.

An autopsy subsequently revealed that PC Gilkes was shot in the back of his head and the suspect has since been cleared of any involvement.

A PCA investigation has now claimed that Gilkes actually died at the hands of one of his colleagues while the officers involved have been accused of misleading the Police Commissioner regarding the circumstances surrounding PC Gilkes death.

PCA Director David West told News Power Now that according to its investigation, there is evidence that officers committed assault during their search at the mosque.

Any justice in the matter now lies in the hands of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Commissioner of Police as Mr West revealed the information has been forwarded to their offices.
