Families of deceased LMCS divers stage action outside Paria Fuel demanding termination of board

The families of the deceased divers have joined with members of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) in a protest at the gates to Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited in Pointe-a-Pierre.

They are demanding that the board of directors of Paria which was in place on the day of the divers’ tragedy all resign or be terminated.

Relatives of Fyzal Kurban, Rishi Nagassar, Yusuff Henry and Christopher Boodram assembled in front of Paria’s headquarters in Pointe-a-Pierre around 8am this morning calling for justice.

They are also calling for immediate compensation following the details released in the Commission of Enquiry’s (CoE) report into the tragedy.

MP for Pointe-a-Pierre David Lee was also a part of the action.

He told media: “This is not a protest, this is more of an awareness where we are calling for compensation for the families and we are asking for the removal of the board members, the chairman Newman George and the top management who was part of that command centre when that disaster took place. We have left a message for Paria’s manager that we are looking for compensation for the families.”

Lee noted that should their pleas fall on deaf ears, then the demonstration will continue next week Thursday.
To date, Paria’s management have remained mum on the details of the report.
