Soldier involved in fatal Kiss delivery truck accident released

The soldier who was involved in the hit and run accident along the highway in Preysal on Thursday 28th March, 2024, which left a Kiss Bakery delivery truck driver dead, has been released.

The deceased is 55-year-old Neil Ballai of Eccles Trace in Spring Village, Valsayn.

Ballai and another man were in the truck proceeding south along the Solomon Hochoy Highway, when a black Hyundai Ioniq Sedan registered PDR 7741, hit them from behind, causing Ballai to lose control.

The truck ran off the highway, killing Ballai at the scene.

The Ioniq, which is registered to a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, identified as Jalani Mapp, fled the scene.

Other motorists notified the police and emergency health services and a team of officers led by Asp Rampartap and Sgt Oliver responded and the injured passenger was taken to the Couva hospital where they were treated.

Following the fatal accident, the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment issued a press release stating that Mapp surrendered himself under the supervision of a competent military authority and is cooperating with the TTPS.
