7 beehives found in Palmiste Park; citizens urged to avoid area

The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries (MALF) said it is deeply concerned about the recent incident involving a swarm of bees at Palmiste Park, San Fernando, on Easter Monday.

The bees injured several individuals who were enjoying recreational activities at the park.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Ministry mobilized a team from its Regional South Administration Office to assess the situation and assist the affected community.

They said the safety and well-being of the public, particularly in recreational spaces where families and individuals gather for leisure activities, remain their top priority.

In light of the incident and subsequent safety concerns, the Bee Abatement Unit of County Victoria (Regional Administration South Division) conducted a surveillance exercise.

The exercise identified seven (7) hives within the park premises that have the potential to pose further harm to park users if disturbed.

The Ministry said given the serious risks associated with bee stings, citizens are urged to exercise caution and avoid the park until further notice.
