Forty-Six Lots Allocated Under Petrotrin Lands Programme In La Savanne And Nurse Trace Communities

Forty-six lots have been allocated under the PETROTRIN Lands Programme in the La Savanne and Nurse Trace communities in Guayaguayare since the programme’s inception.

The update comes from the Land Settlement Agency in response to media reports and concerns raised by residents of New Lands Village surrounding the allocation of residential lots in Guayaguayare.

It says there are currently only two former PETROTRIN workers registered in the PETROTRIN Lands Programme’s database with addresses in the Mayaro/Guayaguayare area.

Neither of them have yet been selected in any of the three live randomised draws held in September 2021, August 2022 and August 2023.

Applicants are not given the opportunity to select a preferred location and as such there is no provision for location-based priority in the selection process.

This means these former employees would not have been afforded any preference in the draws for lots in this area.

The lots distributed in the community were allocated under the PETROTRIN Lands Programme, following a decision by the government in 2020 to provide support to eligible former PETRORIN employees in the form of access to residential plots of land.
