Former Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith is maintaining his call for criminal gangs to be categorized as terrorist groups.

He appeared as a guest on the Power Breakfast Show this morning and explained that the real solution lay in changes made to the anti-terrorism Act.

He noted that the ease of access criminals have to automatic weapons should cause the authorities to reconsider how crime is seen and addressed.

He stated that the criminal activities of the gangs are not only making it difficult for the Government to govern but it is also destabilizing the country.

He explained with these conditions gangs can be viewed as terrorists.

He said based on specific parts of the Anti-Terrorism Act it is possible not only to target gang members, but also those supplying them with arms and ammunition.
