Government Has No Plans Of Cutting 2500 WASA Workers, Says Public Utilities Minister

There is no action plan by the government to reduce staff at WASA by 2,500 workers.

Confirmation of this came from Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales during the budget debate in the House of Representatives on Friday.

Minister Gonzales said the transformation plan for WASA has been completed.

It has been passed on to Board of Commissioners for implementation.

Two years ago the report on the findings of a parliament subcommittee on the operations ofWASA was laid before the house.

Mr Gonzales said the government is willing to take decisions which are not particularlly popular but is about improving service and water supply to the people.

Minister Gonzales told the parliament, a number of projects have been taken up to help improve the water supply for communities and many residents have acknowledged the success of the venture.

The Member of Parliament for Lopinot\Bon Air West also responded to the Opposition Leader’s claim that the restructuring of WASA  will result in the significant loss of jobs.
