Hundreds were turned away and left disappointed this morning, after the organisers of the South Park Plaza hamper drive were forced to cancel the event for today and Tuesday, June 29th due to the large turnout.
In a social media post, they wrote:
We are overwhelmed by the response to our South Park Plaza Hamper Distribution.
Unfortunately, even with police presence, we experienced difficulty in ensuring compliance with the safety ordinance. We will be working with the police to develop a different distribution strategy to provide help to those that need it the most.
In light of this, we have had to cancel the events for Friday the 25th and Tuesday, the 29th of June.
We do apologize for the cancellation, but it was necessary for the safety of all our citizens.
