Day care centers will be constructed and will cater to children under three-years-old. The centers will be provided to female-headed households who meet the criteria, and will be established in communities throughout the country.
Minister of Finance Colm Imbert made the announcement yesterday. He said the centers provide employment opportunities for women. Shelters will also be provided for homeless females who may have been displaced because of domestic violence and other issues. Imbert said there is currently a shelter for homeless women but, “it is woefully inadequate”. Proposed shelters will be established by the HDC with support from private businesses.
Persons will be assigned to the shelters after a comprehensive assessment on a 3 to 12-month basis. The shelter is intended to provide temporary relief to women who are homeless.
