TS Karen Weakens North of Puerto Rico as Hurricane Lorenzo Turns Northwestward

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 25.5 north, longitude 63.5 west or about 520 miles or 835 kilometers north-northeast of San Juan Puerto Rico. Karen is moving toward the north-northeast near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days. Karen is expected to remain over the northwest Atlantic Ocean during the next few days.

LORENZO TO TURN NORTHWESTWARD AND STRENGTHEN TODAY

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 15.1 north, longitude 39.3 west. Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Lorenzo is forecast to turn toward the northwest and begin moving at a slightly slower speed later today. A turn toward the north is then anticipated on Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph or 155 km/h, with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast and Lorenzo is forecast to become a major hurricane later today or early on Friday.
Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to remain over the central Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.
