Drowning in Mayaro – Fire Officer dies while trying to save bathers in trouble

Fire officer Stephen Marcano was attempting to be the hero, and save the lives of bathers who got into difficulty in waters off Mayaro on Sunday.

However, he died while trying to make the rescue.

Marcano, a 35-year-old husband and father of two from Bhagwansingh Trace, Gasparillo was at the beach off Vick’s Avenue, Guayaguayare Road, Mayaro, around 5:30pm when he saw the bathers in trouble.

He went into the choppy water to help but was swept away.

A short time later, his body washed ashore. He was unresponsive. Paramedics took Marcano to the Mayaro District Hospital, where he died.

Marcano was attached to the Savonetta Fire Station, and owned a transport company.
