Transparency activist: Minister of Youth should set an example by resigning

Transparency activist Rishi Maharaj says Minister of Youth Development and National Service, Foster Cummings, should do the right thing and step aside.

The Minister was said to be the subject of a report by the Special branch of the TTPS regarding his business dealings.

The report which the Opposition claimed to have received, allegedly questions his dealings with the Housing Development Corporation and his involvement with possible criminal elements.

The UNC claimed that the report was done since 2019 and questioned whether Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was aware of the report given his role as Head of the Security Council.

The Opposition also called on Minister Cummings to resign in light of the information.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102 Digital, Mr Maharaj said given that the country follows the Westminster system of politics, the right thing for Minister Cummings to do would be to step aside until his name is cleared.

He added that even if not for that reason, Minister Cummings’ post as Youth Minister should spur him on to do the right thing and set an example.
