Trade Minister Shares Details On Government’s $300Mil Agriculture Stimulus Programme

The government is currently implementing a 300 million dollar agriculture stimulus programme.

This is one of several measures in place to address and monitor rising food prices.

The government is confident these initiatives will keep prices on items affordable for consumers.

The assurance comes from Minister Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee Scoon.

On Tuesday, the Senate was told `that among the measures are the removal of value added tax on a list of basic food items, the suspension of the common external tariff on twenty food items, increase supply of foreign exchange under the Exim Bank to address challenges faced by manufacturers and importers.

Plans to help small, medium and micro businesses impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic were also revealed by the Trade Minister.
