THA Amendment Act to be proclaimed on Monday, July 26

The Tobago House of Assembly Amendment Act to be proclaimed on Monday, July 26.

This announcement was made by Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley at the Post Cabinet Media Briefing held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Blenheim, Tobago on Thursday 22nd July.

Dr Rowley said the Cabinet has approved the proclamation, which will now allow the Election and Boundaries Commission to produce a report, redrawing the electoral boundaries in Tobago from 12 to 15 seats, as revised in the act.

He said this new election “will allow the people of Tobago to deal with the issue” of the six-six deadlock.

This will trigger immediate action by the EBC who are to submit a report within 90 days with respect to the redrawing of electoral boundaries in Tobago in line with the revised number of seats (15) for the assembly.

This report will be submitted to the Minister of Rural Development and Local Government.

This report will then be debated in Parliament. Once passed, the way would be made clear for a new election to take place in Tobago.
