San Juan police are investigating an attack of a 48-year-old Aranguez farmer and his wife on Wednesday night.
Reports are that the man was asleep in his garden shed at Sookia Trace, Aranguez, when he was awakened by noises around 10.30 pm.
Upon investigating, he saw five masked men stealing his celery crops.
When he raised an alarm and tried to fight the bandits off, he was shot in the abdomen.
The man’s wife was also chopped behind the neck during the attack.
The suspects then ran away.
Residents nearby heard the gunshot and called the police.
The couple was taken to the hospital where they were treated.
