National Security Ministry collabs to deliver training programme for Case Care Management Mentors

The Ministry of National Security’s Probation Services Division and the Executive Secretariat of the Inter American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) collaborated to deliver a training programme for Case Care Management (CCM) Mentors (Second Batch).

The training initiative forms part of the Case Care Management (CCM) Pilot Project which was launched on September 22, 2021.

Twelve (12) mentors successfully completed the training programme and received certificates in a Graduation Ceremony held in their honour on Thursday April 13, 2023 at the Probation Services Division, Corner Queen and Henry Street, Port of Spain.

These mentors will work with Case Care Managers to strengthen linkages with CCM clients and their communities as it relates to social integration. The training aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of substance use disorders as a brain disease, as well as develop core competences for recovery support professionals.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Ms. Aarti Bedassie-Maharaj congratulated the all CCM Mentors for volunteering to serve and their willingness to make a difference in the lives of CCM clients, experiencing substance abuse disorders. She also expressed appreciation for the level of stakeholder collaboration within the programme, thanking the Executive Secretariat of the Inter American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) for the financial and technical assistance provided for the pilot project.

Also delivering congratulatory remarks were Chief, Institutional Strengthening Unit, Executive Secretariat – Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission of the Organization of American States (ES-CICAD/OAS), Mr. Antonio Lomba; Chief Probation Officer, Ms. Sintra Maharaj; Consultant, Institutional Strengthening Unit, Executive Secretariat – Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission of the Organization of American States (ES-CICAD/OAS), Ms. Elisa Rubini; and CCM Mentor Mr. Saffraz Ghany. OAS Representative, Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Marina Piper was also present to congratulate the mentors.

The CCM Pilot Project is a collaboration between the Probation Services Division, the Executive Secretariat of the Inter American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS), and the United States Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The Ministry of National Security’s Probation Services Division is serving as the Project Manager for the two-year initiative, with support from key stakeholder organizations. The initiative seeks to enhance coordination among the justice, health, social and other systems to streamline services for persons with Substance Use Disorders who are in conflict with the law, in order to assist with their recovery and structured re-integration into society.
