MOH to investigate Pharmacies selling COVID-19 test kits

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has revealed that an investigation will be launched into the reports that pharmacies have been selling rapid antigen test kits for Covid19.

He made the comment in response to a question at Wednesday’s MOH media briefing.

Reports are that some pharmacies have begun selling the kits at a cost of $210, in some instances $300, which is much less than the over $1,000 fee for the same test at private institutions.

Deyalsingh said, “I had a specific discussion with the CMO (Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram) this morning (Wednesday) that we are going to be investigating all of these and bring the necessary charges.

“The charge under the public health regulation is a couple hundreds of thousands of dollars and six months in jail. We are taking this very, very seriously,” Deyalsingh said.
