One man was arrested and a pistol loaded with a quantity of ammunition was seized by officers of the Southern Division, during an anti-crime exercise in the Penal district last night.
Officers responding to a Road Traffic Accident along the SS Erin Road, Penal around 8pm, on Thursday 17th December, 2020, observed a man standing outside a silver Mitsubishi Lancer at the site of the accident.
The man told the officers he wanted to retrieve a cellular phone from his vehicle and one of the officers assisted him with use of his flashlight. While making checks in the vehicle, the officer observed one Tanfoglio pistol fitted with a magazine on the floor of the vehicle.
The officer asked the man if he is the holder of a Firearm Users License for the gun, to which he replied ‘no’.
The man, a 59-year-old of Debe, was arrested in connection with the find and the firearm removed from the scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
