WPC charged with assaulting relatives

A Woman Police Constable will appear virtually before an Arima Magistrate on Monday 25th January, 2021, charged with Assault by Beating against a male relative, as well as, Unlawful Assault against a female relative. The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday 3rd September, 2020.

WPC Patrice Clarke, 41, last attached to the Northern Division, was charged with the offence, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Thursday 12th November, 2020. The DPP further advised that the accused be interviewed and if no useful information is obtained, the charges should be proffered.

The male victim reported to police that on September 3rd 2020, he was at his home in the company with the accused and other persons when they got into a heated argument. During the altercation, the victim said he left the house to de-escalate the situation.

He said upon returning to his home later that night, he and the accused got into yet another argument during which she slammed a door against his hand and hit him several times across the back with a chair. During the same incident, another relative, aged 58, intervened in an attempt to quell the disturbance and the accused proceeded to the refrigerator and filled a cup of cold water and threw it upon the female relative.

Both victims made a report to the police and an investigator was appointed to the matter.
Clarke was subsequently charged on Wednesday 16th December, 2020, by W/Cpl (Ag.) Henry, of the Professional Standard Bureau, in connection with the offences.
