Kareem Marcelle: JP’s signing blank warrants and issuing them to officers!

Community activist and attorney Kareem Marcelle says he feels a sense of victory not only for himself and his brothers but also for everyone else in depressed areas who believe that having their rights taken away by the police is the norm.

He made the comment following the judgement recently in the courts.

The High Court ordered the Office of the Attorney General to pay in excess of $.6 million to Marcelle and his two brothers for wrongful arrest, assault and battery and damage to property.

On June 27, 2018 at 5.30 a.m, Marcelle and his brothers, Kern and Kevin, were asleep at their Beetham Gardens home when lawmen used a sledgehammer to enter their property by destroying three doors to the home, allegedly in search of arms and ammunition, during an exercise in the community.

Nothing illegal was found in the house.

Speaking with News Power Now this morning Marcelle said that he grew up in a community where unlawful searches by officers were the norm.

Commenting further on this point Marcelle leveled serious accusations against JP’s in T&T.

He said there must be a collective approach by the population to call on parliamentarians to do their part to enact or amend laws to treat with the issue.
