Betrayed and conned.
That’s how the residents of Glen Road, Tobago are feeling, after a prison practically popped up on their street with little to no information provided.
The area is a densely populated residential area and they said there was no consultation.
The residents said they were made to believe by both government and the Tobago House of Assembly, that the facility was being set up as a temporary base for COVID-19 prisoners only.
They learnt that this was not the case on Saturday, when the first intake of prisoners arrived and the media ran information of the Tobago prison’s relocation.
The new Tobago Correctional Facility on Glen Road has no guard booth, no security fencing or barricades and is very close to homes and businesses.
