Cuba Affected By Power Outages

Cuba’s  Energy Ministry says large parts the country has been affected by power outages.

Authorities say today the  Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant should be fully operational following maintenance works.

Earlier this month, Haiti, introduced a more-than 400 percent fuel price hike.

The country is also experiencing a shortage of fuel which is needed to generate the electricity.

Last year,  according to official estimates, the Cuban economy declined by two percent.

Inflation reached 30 per cent.

Challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic, sanctions by America and structural economic weaknesses are cited as factors contributing to tough situation.

The situation has resulted in chronic shortages of fuel and other basics.

Government has intervened by subsiding many goods and services used by Cubans.
