One man is dead following a confrontation with police early Friday morning.
The victim has been identified as Zitari Newark from Couva.
Reports indicate that around 3:30am, officers received a report of a robbery in the Couva district.
When they arrived, they saw four men standing next to a Nissan car.
On seeing the officers, the men opened fire.
The officers returned fire on the suspects.
Three of the suspects escaped in the vehicle but police saw Newark on the ground.
He was taken to Chaguanas Hospital to be treated but he succumbed to his injuries.
Police searched for the other three suspects but they could not be found.
Police are continuing investigations.
