Attorney General Seeks Senior Counsel Advise Following Privy Council Ruling

The Attorney General is liaising with learned Senior Counsel as he seeks advice pertaining to the London based  Privy Council’s judgement, on Thursday, relating to government’s decision to postpone the Local Government Elections and extend the life of councils for one year.

Reginald Armour, speaking at a news briefing, said he has the decision under active consideration.

He said he will pass on the guidance received to the cabinet.

AG Armour said the decision as to when local government elections will be called is one for the Prime Minister to make adding that it would be irresponsible of him to rush to conclusion on this matter.

He said the decisions of the Court of Appeal are not irrelevant and the reason why he returned to them is because the Privy Council has been careful to refer to passages out of the judgements out of Trinidad and Tobago.
