Ag Assistant Police Commissioner rejected by gov’t for post of DCP

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Wendell Lucas has been rejected for the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Government yesterday rejected Lucas’ nomination, despite him being praised by National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds for his accomplishments, long service and dedication to the police force.

Lucas was one of four DCP candidates nominated during yesterday’s sitting of Parliament.

According to reports, 20 Government MPs voted against Lucas, while 12 opposition MPs abstained from voting.

Oropouche East MP Roodal Moonilal, questioned the Police Service Commission’s (PolSC) process for nominating officers.
Moonilal suggested that the Parliament be provided with more than just a nominee’s CV going forward.

Although Lucas was rejected, the nomination of Curt Simon to the Office of DCP received no objections.

Simon, who previously held the role of acting DCP, received no objections against his nomination from either side.
