Africans should not be forced to work on Emancipation Day

Chairman of the Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago, Khafra Kambon says the working class should not be forced to work on Emancipation Day.

Speaking with News Power Now this morning, Kambon said it it’s a great disrespect for employers to force workers to be present on August 1st.

Kambon said it should be left up to the employee to choose to be present on the holiday; given the fact that it was marked as a day of freedom for all slaves.

When asked if his organization intends to lobby for this mandate to be changed, Kambon said they intend to campaign for this to come to an end.
