Adverse Weather alert extended to 8pm tonight

Trinidad and Tobago is still under a Yellow Level alert.

This as the Meteorological Service has extended the Adverse Weather Alert, Yellow Alert, for T&T until 8 pm tonight.

An update from the service on Friday stated that ongoing heavy showers and thunderstorm activity were expected to affect mainly parts of Trinidad and offshore marine areas of Tobago last night into today.

While some dampening of the activity was expected during the earlier part of last night, the Met Office said that enhanced activity was again expected towards midnight.

It said street/flash flooding, localised ponding, landslides/landslips and gusty winds in excess of 55 km/hr are still likely in areas of heavy showers or thunderstorms, with isolated downdrafts in excess of 65km/hr.

Yellow alert level means that the hazard is likely, but the severity of impact is moderate for this particular alert.

The Met Office is advising the public to assess the environment before venturing out, secure loose items and livestock and monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources.
