Virologist Nicole Ramlachan says reduced numbers doesn’t mean no issue with Covid in T&T

Virologist Nicole Ramlachan says reduced testing does not necessarily mean that there is not a problem with the Covid 19 virus in Trinidad and Tobago.

She says that lower numbers are being reported but she maintained that there are reasons for this.

She said for example testing has largely gone to Antigen and home based testing which is not reportable to the Ministry of Health.

However she noted that the present cost attached to testing privately is significant.

She said that with children back out to school there is going to be a mixing of the students which could lead to the possibility of spread amongst students and their families, in particular, their elderly grandparents and family members who may have commodities, putting them at higher risk for critical illness or death..
