Victims of violent crimes can now apply for compensation via email

Persons who are victims of violent crimes can now submit their applications for compensation via email.

They can be compensated up to $25, 000 however this may increase up to a maximum of $50, 000 based on the advice of the National Security Minister.

At a Joint Select Committee (JSC) meeting on Wednesday, members of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board said this will assist victims in submitting their documents in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Investigating Officer at the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board Lester Thom said persons can now apply for compensation electronically.

He disclosed the Board was considering establishing an online platform to mitigate the necessity for in person applications.
Applicants have one year to apply with supporting documents.
