Unvaccinated Police Officers could see paycuts after frontline removal

Acting Police Commissioner Gary Griffith said while police officers cannot be forced to become vaccinated, they could be removed from the frontline as part of health and safety measures.

Speaking at yesterday’s media briefing at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) headquarters in Port of Spain, Griffith said to date, 12 police officers who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

He said there will be a vaccination drive to try to achieve 75 per cent vaccination within the police service – currently, 45 per cent of the police service is vaccinated.

He said that vaccination of officers is not mandatory, however action would be taken to ensure that those working on the frontline have a layer of protection against the Covid 19 virus.

Griffith said this may result in reduced income for some officers.
