Security Consultant challenges ‘safe zones’ in proposed amended Firearms Act

Security Consultant and Weapons’ Dealer Dirk Barnes is challenging the gun-free zones recommendation in the proposed amended Firearms Act.

Speaking on a Breakfast Show this morning Barnes said that the Firearms Act in its current form should be revised.

The proposed safe zones include Parliament, courts, schools, colleges, universities, childcare centres, bars, banks, places of worship and any government or private buildings declared by the minister.

Barnes said the safe zones is a very unusual concept and while the average citizen would obey the law the criminals have no intention of doing so.

This he lamented would leave the law abiding citizen vulnerable to criminal attacks.

He stated that this puts the unarmed citizens at a disadvantage as it severely threatens their safety.

He said safe zones should be applied to places like Parliament, President’s House and the courts.
