Kamla to Gov’t: what’s the balance on Nation’s savings?

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar is asking the Government to provide information on the current balance of the nation’s savings.

This is after Finance Minister Colm Imbert told the country over $1 billion had been deposited into the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund (HSF).

During her response to the near-$58 billion budget, Persad-Bissessar, in a media conference at her Charles Street, Port of Spain office said her team had been consistently asking for information on the HSF and had not been given answers by the Government.

She said they were told how much was in the HSF and that $2.5 billion was withdrawn in seven years.

However she said that apart from the withdrawals the investments made internationally would have been negatively affected by the pandemic.
