Two persons were arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized during Operation Blue Line exercises conducted in the North Central Division overnight.
Meanwhile, three persons arrested in connection with firearm related offences appeared before the Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer to the charges.
In the latest gun seizure, officers of the North Central Division Task Force, Area West, conducted an exercise between 8 pm and 11:30 pm, on Monday 28th August, 2023, during which they intercepted a Hyundai Elantra motor vehicle along Bassie Street, Valsayn with three male occupants.
One of the suspects exited the vehicle and was able to escape, while the other two were held.
A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding a Glock-19 semi-automatic pistol, two magazines and 31 rounds of ammunition.
The suspects, a 34-year-old Arima man and a 32-year-old Valencia man were arrested in connection with the find.
Investigations are ongoing into the above matter.
And, two persons were denied bail and remanded into custody when they appeared before a Couva Magistrate yesterday, charged with multiple offences including Wounding with Intent, Possession of Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Firearm to Endanger Life and Possession of Ammunition to Endanger Life.
KEVIN KALICHARAN, 34, and KAVITA KALICHARAN, 25, were arrested by Central Division officers following a report of Wounding with Intent and Possession of Firearm and Ammunition arising out of an alleged shooting incident which occurred on Saturday 26th August, 2023 in the Freeport district.
Their matter was adjourned to September 22nd, 2023.
Also, ANTHONY MODESTE, 50, of Freeport pleaded not guilty to charges of Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition, when he appeared before a Couva Magistrate yesterday.
He was denied bail and remanded into custody.
His matter was adjourned to September 22nd, 2023.
He was arrested by Central Division officers on Friday 25th August, 2023, after being allegedly found in possession of a pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.
