Trio charged with viral beating of man in Tobago

Assault occasioning bodily harm, false imprisonment and robbery with aggravation…these are not crimes usually perpetrated by women, but three women have been charged with those offences and they all appeared before the Scarborough Magistrate’s Virtual Court on Monday, to answer to said charges.

On October 7, 2020, the trio held a 28-year-old Roxborough man against his will at their home and stole his money while he was beaten with a belt.

The man was naked during the ordeal and the entire incident was recorded and uploaded to social media and eventually went viral.

The women are Dachel Ashby 19, a security guard, Jennieve Gardiner 28, unemployed and Reacheal Martinez 36, also a security guard. All are close relatives.

Ashby, who was slapped with three charges, was granted bail in the sum of $75,000.00 with a cash alternative of $10,000, while Gardiner and Martinez were both granted bail in the sum of $60,000 with a cash alternative of $8,000

The women were ordered by the court to have no interaction with the victim and to stay 100 feet away, as a condition of their bail.

Two warrants have since been issued for a fourth person.
