Transgender women turn to kidnapping to fund their sex change surgery

Police in the Philippines are hunting a group of transgender women who have resorted to kidnapping and gun-running to fund their sex change operations.

Director of the Phillipines Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Brigadier General Ronald Lee said that since the founding of the criminal group in 2018 with nine original members, the suspects have already raised more than US $70 thousand in kidnapping activities.

The money is being used to fund the members’ gender reassignment surgeries.

The group call themselves the “Warla Kidnapping Group” and operate in the Southern part of the capital Manila.

According to the police, their modus is to lure victims from dating apps and sites to meet up with them, then kidnap them and bring the victims to their safehouse, extort money, and drop off the victims in random places once the ransom is received.

The group already kidnapped 14 persons including a Taiwanese businessman.

The group was identified after police tracked the ransom money for the businessman which was paid via an online cash app.
