Three arrested red-handed after maxi taxi robbery

Three men were arrested for robbery with aggravation yesterday after police intercepted a maxi taxi in Trincity.
Around 11 pm, three men who were in the maxi, announced a robbery as the vehicle proceeded along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) in the vicinity of St. Augustine. The driver and a female passenger, the only other occupants of the vehicle, were allegedly relieved of a cellphone valued at $2,500 and $400 cash.
The suspects then instructed the driver to continue along the PBR and upon reaching Dinsley Junction, asked him to stop the vehicle and the female passenger was allowed to leave. They then instructed the driver to continue to proceed along Dinsley Main Road.
Shortly after she was allowed to leave the vehicle, the female passenger alerted officers from the Maloney Mobile Patrol who were in the vicinity at the time. A broadcast was sent out and the officers accompanied her along the Dinsley Main Road.
The maxi was seen proceeding towards the Trincity roundabout and another broadcast was sent out and a chase ensued.
The maxi was intercepted under the Oropune Gardens walkover by the officers of the Maloney Mobile Patrol.
The three suspects, two of whom were allegedly armed with knives, were positively identified by the female passenger and subsequently arrested with the assistance of the Northern Division Emergency Response Patrol (NDERP). The stolen items were also recovered.
Investigations are ongoing.
