Road collapse on corner of Frederick & Queen Street – Drivers told to be cautious

There has been a major road collapse at the intersection of Frederick and Queen Street (Queen Janelle Commissiong Street) and the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association is alerting the general public and users of the City Centre to be careful.

In a statement, DOMA said this road collapse was caused by a leaking underground sewer line and has required urgent repair work by WASA and the complete closure of the intersection.

It said southbound traffic particularly on Frederick Street should try alternative routes.

“All southbound traffic through Port of Spain should also expect delays. Northbound and westbound traffic through Port of Spain is also seriously affected by the closure of Queen Street and as a result severe traffic congestion exists on Independence Square and on the main highway arteries coming from the east,” DOMA said.

It added that WASA has given the assurance of speedy work because of the seriousness of the disruption being caused by this closure.

On Monday afternoon, one unfortunate driver was affected by the hole, as his vehicle went into it and became stuck.
