Ramnarine: Direct link between crime and the economy

There is a direct correlation between crime and criminality and the economy.

This is the belief of Former Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine.

Mr Ramnarine was a guest on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102 Digital this morning.

He said while there are various reasons for the crime situation, he believes the shutdown of the country during the Covid pandemic for two years directly affected a spike in crime in 2022 and continues in 2023.

Trinidad and Tobago recorded more than 600 murders in 2022 and same figures are being predicted by the end of this year.

T&T has just crossed 40 murders with three and a half months still to go before the end of the year.

Ramnarine stated that there is a relationship between crime and the economy.

He said the Government must make use of economic levers to address the problem of crime.
