Paray says Kamla trying to tarnish his reputation with false accusations

Mayaro MP, Rushton Paray, says he will not continue to allow Opposition leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, to tarnish his reputation with false accusations.

This after he said the UNC leader erroneously suggested that he attempted to undermine the Opposition bench on the vote on the motion to extend the time for the laying of the Auditors General Report last Friday in Parliament.

In a release on Monday, Paray said: “As the Parliament records will clearly indicate I was present last Friday, during the sitting of Private Members Day, where I supported all of my colleagues, including Mrs Persad-Bissessar as they made their contributions.”

“When this session ended at 6pm I left as there was no indication to me that there was to be a vote on the motion to extend the time of the Auditors General Report. Had I known this I certainly would have made myself available. Perhaps this is an example of the information Mrs Persad-Bissessar claims to deliberately hide from some members,” added Paray.

Furthermore, he said: “The fact that this was a simple majority vote in which the Government has an inbuilt majority, makes Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s desperate attempt to scandalise it beyond pathetic. It is clear that Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s real objective here is not to hold the PNM to account, but to attack UNC members who are demanding constitutional internal elections.”

Paray added: “This is simply further proof that Mrs Persad-Bissessar is far more interested in clinging to power within the UNC than actually winning General Elections and taking our party into power. It is clear that Mrs Persad-Bissessar desires to be Opposition Leader for life at the expense of ordinary UNC members.”

“I continue to call on all UNC members to let their voices be heard as we demand that the principles of democracy and decency once again uplift our party, and make us stronger so that we may defeat this incompetent PNM regime and save Trinidad and Tobago.”
