Probe To Be Done Into Public Account Statement Which Detected Error In 2023 Revenue Data

A probe will be done into the public account statement which detected an error in this country’s revenue data for last year.

The findings of the investigation will be reported to the Public Service Commission or any other relevant office holder for their review and appropriate actions.

Confirmation of this comes from Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, during a statement in the Senate on Monday.

In a statement the  Finance Minister explained he did not prepare or amend the public accounts.

However, he consulted with his staff about the accusation of improper conduct by the Ministry.

Last week Friday a government motion to extend the time to present information to the Auditor General was passed in Parliament, this  happened after the Auditor General reportedly refused to accept information seeking to correct a $2.6 billion understatement of Trinidad and Tobago’s revenue for 2023.

The motion, stated it was necessary, in respect of the financial accounts for 2023, the period of time specified under certain sections of the Audit and Exchequer Act (69:01) be extended.

Meanwhile, Opposition Senator, Wade Mark, called for all documentation and records pertaining to this development to be brought forward and provide full disclosure.

This Senator Mark claims will help ensure transparency in the matter.

Independent Senator, Deoroop Teemal, also wanted to know whether there was any evidence to indicate the statements were amended by January 31st.

In response, Minister Imbert said guidance and advice of legal counsel was sought in this matter.
