Global Experts Monitoring Particular Avian Influenza Strain According To Professor Oura

Virologist Professor, Chris Oura, cautions there is a particular strain of avian influenza which is being closely monitored by global experts.

It started in Asia.

However, it has spread to Europe.

Professor Oura admits the virus has the ability to change and adapt.

This particular strain has been around since 2021.

However, it has spread across into the Americas, Cuba, Venezuela, South America.

Professor Oura warns it can get into humans through close contacts with wild birds and can spread to cattle.

He said a similar influenza virus transmitted to humans in 1918 after the First World War and it killed more people than died in the First World War.

Professor Oura made the remarks while being interviewed on the Power Breakfast programme on Monday.
