Police Constable accidentally shoots himself

A police constable accidentally shot himself in the foot with his licensed firearm.

The officer told investigators he had entered his vehicle with his personal firearm holstered to his hip when he heard a loud explosion.

He then felt a burning sensation in his left leg and realized he had been shot.

The incident occurred around 9am at the officer’s Arima home.

The constable said he notified his colleagues and officers from the Northern Division Task Force responded and took the injured officer to the Arima Hospital where he was treated.

He was later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he is currently warded.
