Police Commissioner says “social media spies” headlines from a daily newspaper is misleading

Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith took issue with one daily newspaper headlines which read, “Social Media Spies” and says it is misleading and shows the ignorance of the media.

Speaking with the Power Breakfast Show this morning on Power 102.1fm, this morning, Commissioner Griffith said that based on information revealed in the 2019/2020 Budget documents laid in Parliament on Monday the TTPS will create a centre with the capacity to monitor and analyse social media activity via the use of surveillance systems.

However Commissioner Griffith took offence with the TTPS being labelled as spies.

The TTPS received approximately $2.6B in the 2020 Budget; an increase from $2.2b in 2019 and in 2020 the TTPS will be expanding its fleet form 1,668 to 1,900 vehicles.
