PM: Parliamentarians needed to help fight crime

The Prime Minister and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has been unfairly targeted when it comes to dealing with crime and criminality in Trinidad and Tobago.

This is according to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.

He made the comment while speaking at a press briefing at Whitehall this morning on National Security.

He referenced what he described as a very important document titled: ‘A Manpower Audit In The Police Service’.

He said that it is necessary to guide both the Government and citizens in T&T on how to deal with crime.

He lamented the fact that with all that he had seen reported by the media on crime the document was never quoted or referred to.

Dr Rowley said that it was laid in Parliament on Nov 11 2017, when the Government had just taken office.

He noted among other things, the Document stated that the TTPS was in a very troubled state and of the 6800 officers only 1400 were on patrol among other issues.

However he said none of the recommendations contained in the report could occur without Parliamentarian’s input.
