Man brought to safety after threatening to jump from Paria fuel tank

There was drama at the Paria Fuel Trading Company this morning after a man trespassed onto the compound and threatened to jump from a jet fuel tank.

Thankfully he was safely detained by the authorities.

In a statement the company said it worked with emergency authorities collaboratively to ensure the civilian’s safe return which took place earlier this morning.

The company said around 9:10 am, its Health, Safety and Environment team was contacted by the Operations department.

They reported that a civilian had been observed at the top of one of the jet fuel tanks.

In accordance with the Company’s Emergency Response protocols, the Trinidad and Tobago Police and Fire Services were immediately notified.

“Authorities realized that the civilian had affixed himself to a rope at the top of the tank and was threatening to jump. It appears that he gained unauthorized access to the facility via the perimeter fence in the area.”

The company said the ambulance service was also contacted, along with the man’s relatives who were on site.

Paria said its HSE and Security teams, working with the Trinidad and Tobago Police and Fire authorities, were successfully able to bring the man down from the tank at approximately 10:55 am and he is currently in their custody.

Paria also thanked the authorities for their efforts in ensuring all was safe during the incident.
